Palma Nova was one of the first purpose-built holiday resorts on the island and is still a popular package holiday destination. The original harbour, once used for fishing, is now a swanky marina and sailing club. The rest of the resort is modern with a range of hotels, aparthotels and apartments, a promenade fringed with a selection of bars, cafes and restaurants and two sandy beaches offering watersports in summer. A good public bus service connects Palma Nova to the shops of Palma and despite having only one disco, has a lively nightlife.

When to go

The major resorts on the south and eastern coast are open all year but you will find that the majority of resort in the north close between November and April. Temperatures in the south average in the low 20's Celsius during the winter months but rise to the high 20's during the summer peak season.
